Storyline

An evil British general rules a remote imaginary town in pre-independence Madras. The novel spans three days and chronicles the lives of illiterate and oppressed villagers as they fail to get word of India’s independence owing to isolation. Param, a local tyrant, starts an uprising to free them all.
